I also replaced varargs.h with stdargs.h in a few.c files to make it compile correctly. I have it working nicely in a Knoppix/Debian distro as of 6/6/2005. If anyone wants the updated package, please let me know. This has been a recurring issue for the uninitiated, and is due in part to the fact that our CVS pserver was forced into discontinuance due to hackers and low-life script kiddies that run bot crawlers, viruses, and other anti-progress malware. Since our development team functions on volunteering hard spent hours and good-will donations both in time, money, energy and knowledge as you have wonderfully demonstrated, and of which -- contrary to common sense gratitude that ought to follow yet comes under attack from various ungrateful community users -- it maybe sometime before this is all sorted out. Putting all that aside, nice work, and thanks. I am running Fedora Core 3 Linux 2.6.9-1.667 - I have had to change some lines due to compile errors (char *strdup(); to char *strdup(char *str); in defaults.c) (advised by a friend) I got this error during make "x11window.c:136: error: conflicting types for 'malloc" this was solved by commenting the line out. All those errors about strdup(), etc. being redefined shouldn't be 'fixed' by changing the prototypes, but by removing all the prototypes for C library functions and instead including the appropriate header files. Unfortunately since the CVS server is done, I can not change anything. Agreed. > Unfortunately since the CVS server is done, I can not change anything. We've been routing around that. You may either; (a) issue patches against what you had, and send them to the list, or; (b) migrate your CVS sandbox to the SourceForge copy of vanilla, using a CVSROOT of :ext:username@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/netrek and a module name of server/Vanilla You aren't listed in the SourceForge list of developers, but I'd be happy to add you. Let me know your SourceForge username. -- James Cameron mailto:quozl@us.netrek.org http://quozl.netrek.org/ From synapsemail at gmail.com Thu Jun 16 13:50:40 2005 From: synapsemail at gmail.com (Jack Norris) Date: Thu Jun 16 13:52:06 2005 Subject: [netrek-dev] RESTRICT_BOMB=1 + metaserver flooding Message-ID: <4dbd3cb105061611504901dee0@mail.gmail.com> Hi, Thanks to the help i received last night i managed to get my netrek server online and appearing on the metaserver. However i now face 2 problems. The first is that i can still bomb with RESTRICT_BOMB=1 - even when there arent enough players available for t-mode. (that is set to 3 per team) And im also having a problem with the metaserver now. I keep flooding it (according to telnet) and i am unsure why. I have changed the default 60 / 120 right up to 900 and its still flooding. bronco-netrek.jacknorris.net is showing fine but jacknorris.net is flooding. the reason bronco-netrek is not flooding the server is because it is not in my .metaservers file anymore jacknorris.net is. but the metaserver is still listing bronco-netrek I have no idea what is going on. Does anyone else :P ? It was because all the aliases for the metaserver resolve to two IP addresses, and you had three defined, and the EU one resolves to two. The code doesn't determine unique IP addresses but it should. Workaround is to reduce your metaservers file to just metaserver.netrek.org entry. I've done that in CVS sf.net for docs/metaservers-HowTo. I'll take patches that change ntserv/solicit.c to detect duplicate IP addresses and avoid sending an update. -- James Cameron mailto:quozl@us.netrek.org http://quozl.netrek.org/
