They're running identical configs with an identical meta codebase. I SUSPECT that it's because continuum, in this case, has decided to solicit one of the IPs and not the other due to not applying the DNS RR properly. (When I tested this when I initially set it up, it seemed to work correctly.) I'll try removing the entry for neural.psychosis.net from DNS in the morning and see if that fixes things with soliciting onto the MIT machine. If so, then I'll just list one of the two until we figure out what's seemingly caching a solitary entry... (We could just have both machines in the rotation, but I actually have some custom scripts set up with multiple replicated DNS masters that let me do RRs and have "dead" IPs pulled out of the RR as needed; kinda a hack, but it works well for connectionless UDP or short-lived TCP sessions. I'm using that for multiple DNS entries, including some IPv6 testing I'm doing, so I'd like to see it working properly rather than just doing a workaround.) So, I could just hardcode both servers in as non-solicit permanent entries, but I'd rather try to figure out what exactly is going on... This version has many bug fixes, especially for paradise. There is also support for the latest and greatest server features including newbie tips, variable ranks, and in-game ltd stats. The client is available for download at www.netrek.org and www.playnetrek.org. Changes and fixes are as follows: Netrek XP 2010, Version 1.0: (Released July-2009) General bug fixes: 1) Many paradise bugs fixed. 2) Many cambot bugs fixed. 3) Fixed phaser draw bug with weaponsOnMap:off. 4) Fixed double buffering bug which was causing performance issues on certain hardware configurations. 5) Fix bug with custom color palette (forcedisplay = 2) which caused local window to have a red background. 6) Fixed bug causing ship values on dashboard to not display properly when upgrades were bought in sturgeon. 7) Fixed bug where font size was not saving properly. New features: 1) Warning messages are no longer logged. Cuts down on logfile spam. 2) Add hint about options menu to the startup hint list. 3) Cambot playback now works for paradise recordings made by paradise clients. 4) Removed RSA verification as this is now deprecated server side. Using new client identification method as defined in server. 5) Added netrekrc option "autoPhaser" to phaser exact location of enemy target (enemy ship or enemy plasma) closest to cursor. Can target cloaked ships. Enemy must be within phaser range of your ship. Only works if server has feature packet F_auto_weapons enabled. 6) Added support for server feature packet SP_RANK. This allows the rank table to be dynamic rather than static. In short, it allows servers to have more or less ranks than normal. Practical application - grand admiral rank on sturgeon now displays correctly in player list and rank window. And rank window now properly displays offense requirements for rank. 7) Added support for server feature packet SP_LTD. This allows detailed stats to be sent to the client. 8) Added netrekrc option "metaBroncoOnly" to only list Bronco/INL servers in the list of servers provided by the aggregate metaservers. 9) Added support for server feature packet TIPS. This clears the MOTD window and provides tips on how to improve your play based on data the server records of your current session. 10) Added netrekrc option "showTips" to choose whether or not to display the server tip messages supplied by TIPS. 11) Client version info now has 1 letter identifier to show where client was downloaded from (p = playnetrek.org, n = netrek.org, d = download.com). 12) Addition of Netrek XP specific metaserver to the metaserver list, to work alongside the default netrek.org metaservers. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Functionally, this metaserver is completely identical to all other metaservers. This metaserver acts like any of the other 3 metaservers in the client, in that all listed servers are aggregated into the server list. If client is in metaBroncoOnly mode, it also behaves like other metaservers in that non-bronco entries are ignored. Current policy on that metaserver mirrors metaserver.us.netrek.org. Any netrek server is welcome to solicit to it, including bronco, sturgeon, paradise, hockey and chaos. Bill -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I just pushed 2.6.0-pre20090729 as a (hopefully) stable snapshot, with the goal of doing an actual 2.6.0 release in the next few weeks. There was never an official 2.5.0 release; the last real "release" was 2.4.0 in early 2000. However, 2.5.0 has been in a semi- official "public beta" state with occasional updates since then, so I'm bumping the version to 2.6.0 for this release, especially since 2.5.0->2.6.0 is going to be more major of an update than 2.5.0 has been over the 9 year span since 2.4.0 came out. BRMH currently lives at http://karthik.com/netrek/brmh/. I am only supporting binaries for Linux (x86 and x86_64) and Mac OS X (x86/PPC universal) at the moment, since it doesn't make sense to support 15 OS/ arch combos anymore (that's not a joke even?I literally did > 15 different builds of 2.4.0.) The code will live on Launchpad shortly, at least as a mirror of the current dev tree. Changes from 2.5.0 (20080828) to the current 2.6.0-pre20090729 snapshot, as well as todos/known bugs: General changes: - Removed RSA and added extended version string support, as RSA is deprecated - Added support to re-enter from the MOTD after death by hitting the space bar with the same ship/race as the previous ship - "lag (st. dev.)" in the ping stats window is now "stdev (rtt)", as "lag" is a very poor and incorrect definition of round trip time variation - The "new" playerlist introduced in 2.5 is now default; the old behavior can be restored from the options screen or in the rc file (specifically, "sortPlayers" and "sortPlayersObs" now default to "on" instead of "off") - Added IPv6 support (note: temporarily removed from the 20090729 release) - Default cloaked ship characters on galactic changed to '><' - Sample xtrekrc with appropriate 2.6 settings included (plus a DDuddy macro!) Code changes: - Handle unknown feature packets more gracefully - Removed mp/gmp support as these are no longer needed after stripping RSA - Deprecated specific Ultrix build support, as it was RSA-specific - Removed various miscellaneous RSA-related code that is no longer needed TODO for final release of BRMH 2.6: - Finish IPv6 support (testing requires finishing IPv6 support in the server) - Fix bug where nearby ships might not show on the tactical upon entry until a ship action packet is sent to the server - Auto-close tactical/galactic info and other dialogs after a user- specific period of time, defaulting to leaving them open until closed as before - Fix TTS (may be pushed to a future release depending on complexity) - Display slot # along with ship speed with none, either, or both configurable - Respond to pig call - Clean up included xtrekrc and include 1280x1024+ version Future features: - Add optional background starfield support - Add sound support Changes from 2.4.0, as it's the last real release, to the latest 2.5.0 "release" (20080828): General changes: - Updated maintainer address - Display ship speed next to own ship on tactical instead of player number - New sorted player list, displays enemy team(s) first, then own team, then observers (enable "sortPlayers: on" and "sortPlayersObs: on" in your rc) - Show 0.00 kills as blanked out in the playerlist instead of showing "0.00" or "-.--" - Updated default metaserver to metaserver.netrek.org - Keyboard torpedoes now autorepeat with the minimum server torp delay regardless of keyrepeat delay - Clock can be reset to zero (default 'K') - Support metaserver strings for INL, Sturgeon, and Other - Cloaking graphics last correct duration (was broken since change from 5ups to 10ups) - Support for "username:" line in rc file to set username Code changes: - Compiles on MacOS X - Removed dependency on user-installed libgmp on MacOS X - Made PI longer for no specific reason - Fixed multiply-defined and used qwin variable that caused crashes (one qwin is now quitwin) - Removed strdup() code - Support FPS and UPS feature packets From akb+lists.netrek-dev at mirror.to Fri Jul 31 22:10:34 2009 From: akb+lists.netrek-dev at mirror.to (Andrew K.
