I date back to '94 but that's nothing using the Holub time metric ;-) Yeah I also really miss the old days. Playing with friends IN PERSON was the best. It was also best way to get immediate feedback/help/instruction/communication. Regarding the game interface I think you're right and netrek is no longer cutting edge and it was never eye or ear candy so we have to promote the strengths which are team play, strategic/tactical challenges, fairly low overhead on network utilization, etc...
